Collaboration between EA Artist Mat Collishaw and designer Matthew Williamson, and others

The BFC announced plans yesterday for a fashion meets arts collaboration that will see some of Britain’s finest creative talent join forces to celebrate the London 2012 Festival.

Britain Creates 2012: Fashion & Art Collusion will pair the best British designers with the country’s top contemporary artists for a project lead by the BFC and our very own Bazaar Fashion Arts Foundation.

Giles Deacon and Jeremy Deller, Hussein Chalayan and Gavin Turk, Jonathan Saunders and Jess Flood-Paddock, Mary Katrantzou and Mark Titchner, Matthew Williamson (pictured with Lucy Yeomans) and Mat Collishaw, Nicholas Kirkwood and Simon Periton, Paul Smith and Charming Baker, Peter Pilotto and Francis Upritchard and Stephen Jones and Cerith Wyn Evans have already enlisted for the project that will be unveiled at a VIP Gala at the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich on 27 June.

The event will raise funds to form a bursary to encourage and support emerging artists and designers. The resulting works of the collaborations will be exhibited at the V&A Museum from 6-29 July and will later be displayed in a window installation at Selfridges.

Bazaar’s editor-in-chief Lucy Yeomans will pen a foreword for an accompanying book, which will include profiles of the designers and artists as well as production notes, sketches and photographs of the works in progress. BFC Chairman Harold Tillman commented, “The pieces of art and accompanying book will leave a great legacy to reflect on this special year.” We can’t wait to be part of the history.

Be sure to stay with Bazaar for the latest insider track on the project including all the party pictures from the VIP Gala.
