Lamar Peterson

Lamar Peterson (b. 1974) is a contemporary painter who is active in New York. He received a B.S. from Florida A&M University in 1999 and went on to receive his M.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 2001. He has received a number of awards including the President’s Scholarship from RISD. Peterson spent his residencies at The Marie Walsh Sharpe Studio at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.

Peterson’s saturated landscapes are playful and inviting though oddly grotesque through his transformation of figures. His works reflect many contemporary issues involving politics and society.

Peterson had a solo exhibition at Deitch Projects in New York and Richard Heller Gallery in California. He has also participated in various group exhibitions at various galleries including Stefan Stux Gallery in New York and The Armory Show in New York.
