Judy Pfaff

Judy Pfaff was born in London, England 1946. She received her MFA from Yale University, New Haven, CT in 1973.Balancing intense planning with improvisational decision-making, Pfaff creates exuberant works that weave landscape, architecture, and color into a tense yet organic whole. A pioneer of installation art in the1970s, Pfaff synthesizes sculpture, painting, and architecture into dynamic environments in which space seems to expand and collapse, fluctuating between the two- and three-dimensional. Extending these concepts in connection with her interest in natural motifs, Pfaff has created a series of prints integrating vegetation, maps and architecture allowing for her work to reach to a greater audience. Pfaff’s work can be found in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY; Whitney Museum of American Art; Tate Gallery, London, UK; Brooklyn Museum of Art, NY; Detroit Institute of Arts and others.
