Alice Briggs
Alice Briggs is an Arizona-based artist whose richly detailed and imaginative drawings and graphics often evoke Plato’s philosophical writings and the illustrations of iconic Northern Renaissance artist Albrecht Durer.
Alice’s technique, called sgraffito, was originally used to decorate walls in 13th century Germany by incising white marks into black surfaces with a knife. This technique imbues Alice’s etchings with a sensation of light and dark, and calm and anxiety, which compliments the scenes’ underlying sense of history. As limited edition prints imbued with the drama of the past,
Alice’s pieces hold a unique post in the cannon of contemporary art.
